BlueBoy- A blond gentleman with many names.
I met Blue Boy for the first time in December 2014 when I untangled him from a net that someone had put behind the Tibetan Market. He understood that I was helping him, so we co-operated and he was soon free. The shopkeepers were looking very stunned and I guess they thought I was completely crazy.
He was in a bad state and very skinny, probably a year old. Over the next days, it turned out he was really ill and worsening rapidly. He was severely infected with pus running from the eyes and nose, terrible coughs, vomiting and diarrhoea, I now believe he had distemper, but without neurological symptoms.
Sweet Shankti let him stay on her spot, lent him her blanket, and I fed him some biscuits from time to time. On Christmas Eve we had dinner and several were talking about him. Brygida had bought antibiotics and asthma medication, but didn’t know how to give them to him. I knew Blue Boy would listen to me, so I went over and drenched biscuits in the medicines. He took them after some hesitation, tasting gruesome, and got a couple of meatballs as a treat. The following five days he took his medication morning and evening, and after just a couple of days of treatments and food, he was much better! On the morning the sixth day, he looked at me and completely refused to it take any more! He was well!
The following weeks he settled down with Shakti and the lot, possessive about the food, but very sweet. We named him Blue Boy because he had a blue collar. He put on weight and the first time he followed me down to the beach again on wobbly feet was great. He was really happy and soon restated himself as the king of the beach. He was called Dave by several people, but it turned out that it was a misunderstanding when the real Dave turned up with a yellow collar. And some Indians called him Kumar; a beloved guy has many names.
He was thriving for many weeks, living on the beach daytime and on the cliff by the shop in the evenings. Every time he saw me, he was so happy and greeted me! I went away for some weeks, and when I returned early one morning, Shakti and Blue Boy came running to greet me welcome back… Blue Boy had gotten a skin condition that itched a lot, and he was stressed and not well. He was out running and difficult to track when I tried to treat him, but eventually, he turned up again, the skin better, but quite slim. He was on the beach with all his friends the last time I saw him, I really hope to see my Blue Boy again next season.
