Hope

Varkala Street DogWe were walking from the south cliff up to the north, it was about 6 pm we had our torch with us and these 4 little pups came running towards us. We instantly looked for their mother/father but no other dogs are to be seen. Quickly realising one of the pups has a broken leg, we try to give them some water that we had in our backpack,
they followed us up the road until we left them and it was heartbreaking!
The next day we got up early to check on them, we brought them some milk and water and made sure they were not dehydrated. They are covered in fleas and many many ticks, but the most concerning is what’s happened to the leg.
Later on in the day, we are feeling very emotional about this issue, but everyone seems to brush these issues under the carpet which is understandable as they see it day in day out.
But for an English couple like us, it’s really devastating. Wanting to do as much as we can to help I got in touch with Pauline Griffith who works on the website operationstreetdogvarkala.com I found on google, as the Indian community seem to turn a blind eye and I needed some real advice. She has shed some light and luckily Maureen Hand and volunteers are coming to Varkala to help them! and others Phew!

Later on in the day, we learned from someone else who has seen them and apparently there where 11 pups in the beginning and the mother died from unknown circumstances (at this point) which answers our question of what they are doing here living in the bushes amongst the rubbish.

All dogs/ animals need to be helped no matter where they are and what situation they are in and if I can do my part then it makes a better world for them.
