Meet Mishka and Sky,( Mishka was at first called Tanya) these are the two puppies that my mum and I fell in love with when we came to India. When we came to volunteer with Maureen and her amazing project we certainly didn’t think that we would end up trying to adopt two puppies to take to the UK. But we knew that both of them would live a very short and unhappy life if they stayed in India.
Mishka was found by some lovely British tourists who were staying at the Gateway hotel. Gateway hotel is situated on a bend of a very busy road that has taken the lives of many dogs in Varkala. We imagine that the same faith had come to Mishka’s mother and siblings. Sky, on the other hand, was staying in an awful shelter where he was kept in a cage with 9 other puppies.
The cages were very rarely cleaned so the 10 puppies were living in their own filth, many of them had eye and skin infections. Very rarely puppies are so lucky to be rescued from that place. I saw Sky and fell in love with him straight away not only because of his unusual look but he seemed so full of life and spirit.
As I am staying in India for 3 months I wanted to rent a house and I found a lovely family that would accept me and my 2 puppies. After a rocky introduction, Mishka and Sky have accepted each other as brother and sister, it is hard to separate them and they can spend hours playing with each other.
